Satri House, Luang Prabang
Atmospheric boutique hotel in historic buildings
In the charming town of Luang Prabang lies the beautiful, whitewashed Satri House - a small hotel with lots of charm and personality.
Built in 1904, it was the childhood home of Laos’ first president, Prince Souphanouvong. Today, the main building is UNESCO-protected, and history is carefully preserved. Add to this the lush tropical garden and swimming pool, then you have a unique place to stay in the former capital.
But Satri House is much more than just beautiful surroundings. It is also the story a story of female empowerment and Lao culture.
House of Women
The current owner, Ms. Lamphoune Voravongsa, restored the French colonial mansion in 2002. It is her vision and creativity that has transformed the former home. And her passion for Lao culture - its indigenous lifestyle, simplicity, elegance, and grace - in every detail, every corner of the hotel.
She is also active in Satri Lao Silk and is passionate about empowering women. This has even led her to name the hotel Satri House, meaning 'House of Women'.
An oasis of tranquility, yet so very central
You are only a 10-minute walk from the very center of Luang Prabang. Yet when you are in Satri House’s green garden, it feels miles away from the city.
Satri House consists of two colonial-style buildings connected by corridors. Swaying palm trees are everpresent, and in the lush garden are two swimming pools.
The hotel only has 31 rooms, which makes the hotel feel airy and never overrun.
The taste of Luang Prabang
Satri House’s restaurant is a true highlight, the menu a mix of Lao delicacies and international specialties. It is an open-air restaurant overlooking the gardens, and it is particularly ambient in the evening when the lights sparkle around you.
