The Seraya, Komodo Island

Relaxed bungalow resort with world-class snorkeling right from the beach

200 meters of private beach, a house reef with turtles and baby sharks, nice and welcoming hosts, and cozy, tasty meals around the long table sharing stories with the other guests. These are some of the ingredients in this little tropical Indonesian paradise.

A stay at The Seraya is a perfect end to a trip in the Indonesian archipelago - especially ideal after a mini-cruise around Komodo National Park, a round trip on Flores, or as an exotic extension to a Bali roundtrip.

House reef with baby sharks and turtles

At Seraya you will find 200 meters of pristine private beach. The sand is as soft and beautiful as it gets. The water is crystal-clear, turquoise-colored, and calm enough for even the smallest children to play and swim in.

From the long jetty, you can jump with masks and fins into the ocean and explore the fantastic house reef. To have such an amazing coral reef right at your doorstep is truly unique and not often found. It's a diverse marine life with both corals and fish in all kinds of colors. In addition, small, completely harmless reef sharks, turtles, and rays are regularly spotted - even dugongs and manta rays have been seen here.

Shared meals every third day creates unity

The food at The Seraya is fresh and delicious. Herbs from the organic garden and a variety of fresh seafood is the main attraction.

While The Seraya is certainly a hidden gem in its own way, it is more the community than the facilities that make it truly special.

Every third day you have dinner family-style at a large long table. Here you exchange the day's experiences on the reef and just interact with guests and staff. Very much like an African safari. It actually gives the stay an extra dimension of connecting you with guests and staff in a very natural way.

Digital detox

There is no wifi here and the mobile signal changes with the wind direction, so you have to prepare for a few days completely disconnected from the rest of the world. Instead, enjoy the peace, the changing colors and the community itself to the fullest. Reconnect with your family and yourself.  Digital detox at its best.

Komodo and kayaks

Komodo National Park boasts some of Indonesia's best snorkeling and of course the opportunity to experience the great dragons. If you have not already been on a boat trip around the archipelago, you can do so on a day trip from The Seraya.

The resort's diving center also arranges both diving trips and courses at various levels. You can kayak to the neighboring islands and experience deserted beaches and quality snorkeling. Try out the paddle trip to the fishing village on the other side of the island.

Low Impact

At Seraya neither bottles nor straws are made of plastic. The ambition is to completely avoid the use of disposable plastic. The goal has not been reached yet, but they are well on their way. They do daily beach clean-ups, where guests and hosts are often helping to protect the local environment.

The Seraya, Komodo Island

A large part of The Seraya is built from bamboo - like the beautiful manta-shaped restaurant. Fruit, vegetables, and herbs are grown in their own organic garden, fish are usually bought directly by the fishermen and the rest is traded in the local market at Flores. As much as possible is recycled or composted - all wastewater is treated and used to irrigate the kitchen garden.

The Seraya also participates in projects to recover damaged coral reefs. This is truly a place where low impact and local responsibility is at the core of the values.

Location

The Seraya is located on the island of Seraya Kecil approx. 9 km from Labuan Bajo - the capital of Flores. It is only 10 minutes by car from the airport to the port and from here another about 45 minutes sailing. Labuan Bajo is an hour's flight east of Bali.
